CKS Attends Cognit-DX AI Seminar at Dubai’s Capital Club
CKS attended an event in Dubai on “AI in the Workplace”, held at the Capital Club in the Dubai International Financial Centre on September 2nd, from 9:30 am to 1:30 pm. The event was fully booked and drew professional participants from journalism, banking, fashion, luxury, construction, media, energy, manufacturing and professional services.
Alaa Dalghan, Managing Director of Cognit DX and a well-known figure in the UAE technology scene, led the workshop. Cognit-DX is a boutique advisory firm in Dubai specialising in technology strategy, C-level advisory, and digital transformation using emerging tech (including AI and machine learning, internet of things, data science & analytics, and blockchain / fintech).
The workshop’s headline - "AI is Coming For White Collar Jobs… Unless You know How to Use It!” - provocatively foregrounded concerns over the disruptive effect of AI on the workforce. The workshop sought to dispel those concerns through engaged story-telling and practical training, featuring live demonstrations of key AI tools and their real-life applications.
Alaa reviewed core concepts and capabilities, including artificial intelligence, machine learning, generative AI, and large language models (LLMs)
Live product demonstrations featured Chat GPT, Microsoft Copilot, Google Gemini, Anthropic’s Claude, Runway ML, Beatoven.ai, as well as DALL-E and MidJourney.
Real-life applications featured demonstrations of gen AI for vdeo, animation, music and audio, and in product team, financial analysis, human resources, and marketing and social media settings.
Participant Q&A with Alaa was interactive, dynamic and stimulating. From a CKS perspective, the workshop was an excellent opportunity to survey the field and engage with other professionals actively using or contemplating the use of AI in the workplace.
Two key points were raised that dovetail with CKS interests and offerings.
Although the focus of the workshop was mid-level work involving AI tools, participants expressed strong interest in C-level strategy development around the use of AI.
A theoretical point was raised around the concept of ideation in artificial intelligence. The specific question raised was whether there is a connection between ideation, as a constructive element of AI, and hallucination, as a perceived flaw in AI systems.
CKS will be exploring both of these issues in its in-house research.
